Rahvusvahelise jalgratturite liidu (UCI) kalendrivõistlus – Balti Keti velotuur jätkus 2.etapiga Tartust Ülenurmest Valgasse. 173,6 km pikkuse grupisõidu võitis haaravast lõpufinišist Eesti profitiimi Tartu 2024/BalticChainCycling.com liige Rait Ärm.
Etapp kulges sootuks erinevalt võrreldes eilsega, mil triumfeeris Alo Jakin. Pärast esimest vahefinišit Ülenurmel (35 km), mille võitis Läti koondise liider Maris Bogdanovics, Gert Jõeääre ja Alo Jakini ees, läksid peagrupis mõtted lõunapausile. Eest pääses kolm jooksikut, kelle edu kasvas väga kiirelt 7 minuti peale. Äraminekusse said sisse Leedu koondislane Justas Beniušis, Läti koondislane Pauls Rubenis ja Norra amatöörtiimi CK Torp rattur Kasper Steen Enstad.
Otepää vahefinišis (103 km) jäid kahekesi ette Beniušis ja Enstad, lätlase Rubenise rattal juhtus tehniline rike – kett läks puru. Peagrupp oli jõudnud jooksikutele oluliselt lähemale, vähem kui 3 minuti kaugusele. Viimases vahefinišis Lüllemäel (149 km) olid kaks meest jätkuvalt ees, aga vahe järgnevatega oli kahanenud alla minuti. Kõik viitas sellele, et tänasel etapil jagatakse kõrgeid kohti grupifinišis.
Nii ka läks. Valga linnatänavatel suutis kõige osavamalt meeskonna tööle saada Tartu 2024/BalticChainCycling.com, kelle liikmed tegid otsustava sööstu eelviimasel kilomeetril, aidates võiduni Rait Ärmi. Lisaks oli Markus Pajur neljas, Antti-Jussi Juntunen seitsmes ja Artjom Mirzojev kaheksas. Võimas tiimitöö! Etapivõidu teeninud Ärmi kõrval pääsesid finišijoonel esikolmikusse leedulane Darijus Džervus ning eilegi kolmanda koha saanud lätlane Maris Bogdanovics. Peagrupi ajaks märgiti 3:59.23, mis teeb sõidu keskmiseks kiiruseks 43,51 km/h.
Üldliidriks kerkis vahefiniši boonussekundite toel Eesti koondise esinumber Gert Jõeäär, kes edestab enne viimast võistluspäeva Alo Jakinit ühe ning Rait Ärmi kolme sekundiga.
Endiselt on kõik väga lahtine.
Homne 3.etapp pikkusega 174,3 km algab Valgast kell 11.00. Finišeeritakse kella 15.00 paiku, samuti Valgas. Enamus etapist kulgeb Läti pinnal.

13. august – I etapp, Tallinn – Raasiku – Väike-Maarja – Kuremaa – Jõgeva, 195 km
14. august – II etapp, Tartu/Ülenurme – Otepää – Lüllemäe – Valga, 174 km
